Nowadays, the status and role of power grids in human economic production and daily life have become increasingly important. Power grids are emerging as one of the most dynamically innovative fields worldwide. Constructing environmentally friendly smart grids will provide a solid guarantee for human sustainable development, thus becoming one of the most crucial innovative tasks facing humanity today. Distribution networks hold a vital position in power grids; therefore, conducting vigorous technological innovation and accelerating the construction of robust, environmentally friendly smart distribution networks have become key tasks for distribution technology suppliers and distribution network construction enterprises.
The solid insulated ring main unit (SIRMU), invented in the 1970s, has provided new impetus for the development of distribution systems. Over the past few decades, distribution technology suppliers and application entities have continuously innovated and promoted the application of SIRMUs. Through several significant innovative upgrades, SIRMUs have played an increasingly prominent role in distribution network systems.
With the continuous advancement of science and technology, human requirements for distribution products have become increasingly stringent. Environmental protection, energy conservation, intelligence, maintenance-free operation, high reliability, and low cost have become the development directions of SIRMUs. Against this backdrop, advanced SIRMUs have emerged as the times require. Entering the 21st century, several innovative Chinese national enterprises pioneered the development of this brand-new type of SIRMU in China, providing new technical support and product guarantees for building robust, environmentally friendly smart distribution networks in the new era. After approximately five years of active promotion and application, SIRMUs have entered a phase of large-scale popularization and application in China, becoming a new mainstay in the construction of robust, environmentally friendly smart distribution networks.
